Family Advocacy

What is a Family Advocate?

Family Advocates provide support services to help ensure that families are connected to the individuals working on their case, are aware of available resources that might be helpful to their family, and have the information they need to both help their child heal and support them throughout the legal process.

Every family that comes to WCCAC has a Family Advocate that supports them & connects them to necessary resources

  • Family Advocates work collaboratively with the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) and non-offending family members to ensure that the client’s voice is heard.
  • Family Advocates provide clients with information regarding their rights and can help provide updates on the status of their case.
  • Family Advocates support the family by helping navigate the complex process of an investigation and the judicial system.
  • Family advocates also provide emotional support by listening to the needs of the family and can help connect families to mental health services.
  • Family Advocates provide clients information regarding the status of their case and aid in connecting them to resources in the community.
  • Family Advocates can connect families to resources that assist with food, clothing, legal, housing, employment, finances, and other aspects of living.
  • Family Advocates can also assist in completing applications for Crime Victims Compensation.
  • The Family Advocate oversees our Crisis Closet which helps provide families with emergency clothing and other essential items.

Internship opportunities

Interns are a critical part of the family advocacy team. The Family Advocacy Department offers internships each semester, to help educate future social workers and other child welfare professionals.
