Family Support Services

What is a Family Support Specialist?

Family Support Specialists serve as a bridge between families and the multidisciplinary team (MDT), helping families navigate the child advocacy process, connect with resources and services, understand what to expect, and feel supported throughout their children’s healing & legal journey.

Every family that comes to WCCAC has a Family Support Specialist that supports them & connects them to necessary resources

What does a Family Support Specialist do?

  • Family Support Specialists work collaboratively with the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) and non-offending family members to ensure that the client’s voice is heard.
  • Family Support Specialists provide clients with information regarding their rights and can help provide updates on the status of their case.
  • Family Support Specialists support the family by helping navigate the complex process of an investigation and the judicial system.
  • Family Support Specialists also provide emotional support by listening to the needs of the family and can help connect families to mental health services.
  • Family Support Specialists provide clients information regarding the status of their case and aid in connecting them to resources in the community.
  • Family Support Specialists can connect families to resources that assist with food, clothing, legal, housing, employment, finances, and other aspects of living.
  • Family Support Specialists can also assist in completing applications for Crime Victims Compensation.
  • The Family Support Specialists oversees our Resource Room which helps provide families with emergency clothing and other essential items.

Need to Reconnect With Your Family Support Specialist?

Whether it’s been months or years since your family received services at WCCAC, we’re still here for you. If you’re a former client or caregiver looking to reconnect with our Family Support Services team (formerly Family Advocacy), we welcome you to reach out.

Internship opportunities

Interns are a critical part of the family support team. The Family Support Department offers internships each semester, to help educate future social workers and other child welfare professionals.
